The ongoing 30th anniversary salute to The Clash etches a new peak withthe long-awaited DVD release of Joe Strummer: "
The Future Is Unwritten," a film by Julien Temple, which will arrive in stores July8th on Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony-BMG Music Entertainment.
The intimate biographical portrait of Clash frontman, vocalist, rhythmguitarist, and primal lyricist Joe Strummer underscores his passion forthe music, and his instincts as a committed social and politicalactivist. His body of work, alongside his partners in The Clash, ledthe band to be inscribed in rock history as "the only band thatmattered" then -- and the only band that really matters now.

The Future Is Unwritten" is the culmination of a mission that began 30years ago for award-winning director Temple, who began to film TheClash 30 years ago at the dawn of the punk rock movement in England.Temple set the project aside to work on the Sex Pistols, resulting inThe Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle (1980), one of the definitive accountsof the era. In the late-'90s, after a two decade hiatus, Temple'sfriendship with Strummer was renewed at the Glastonbury festival andthe seeds of this film were sown.
