On Thursday evening, police in Dallas stopped a tour bus carrying rapper
Snoop Dogg, after determining the vehicle's registration tags had expired. But when cops stepped onto the bus, they stepped off with two men, who were taken into custody and arrested on drug charges.
According to
The Associated Press, Snoop, who was onboard when police began their search of the vehicle, was not charged in connection with the traffic stop, which was initiated by a commercial vehicle inspection team working for the Texas Department of Public Safety. The incident happened just hours before Snoop was set to perform at Dallas' Superpages.com Center; the rapper is currently on tour with 311.
Police claim that when they stopped the bus, they caught a whiff of marijuana and decided to conduct a quick search. Inside, they found two ounces of the drug. Ethan Calhoun, 27, and Kevin Barkey, 26, admitted that the drugs belonged to them and were booked on marijuana possession charges. The two men, whose association with the rapper was not disclosed, were transported to the Navarro County Jail and face fines of up to $2,000 and six months in jail, if convicted.
Both men were released on $1,500 bond.
Snoop's no stranger to such charges. In 2006, he was arrested at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California,
on drug and gun possession charges. In April of 2007, Snoop
pleaded no contest to felony gun and marijuana charges , agreeing to five years' probation and 800 hours of community service.
