How do you break up with someone ?

People have several different ways of breaking up. Some people will do it over the phone, someone will sit down and have a long talk, some people will send a letter or e-mail, and some people will just ignore the person altogether. What do you think is the best way to break up? I would normally say face to face but sometimes there are situations where that is not the wisest choice (abusive relationships etc).

Breaking up is never easy. But with modern technology, people have the temptation to break up by SMS or email. Don't do that, it is really shows alot of disrespect for a soon-to-be past relationship.

I agree that with technology people find the easy ways out to break-up and its selfish, I prefer face to face but there has been an occasion when I had to do over the phone for the reason it was an abusive relationship and I had tried face to face and lets say it didnt work and ended with the police etc like that wasnt enough for him to understand it was over he called me the next day to ask if we were meeting up for lunch so I had to break it very harshly over the phone!

The bottomline is decency and not be heartless. What goes around comes around. Today you dump people, the next day you become the dumpee. There is a certain karma in all these!

If breaking is definitely required then do it with elegance and dignity so that if ever you have to make up again,it is not embarrassing.

I think that's an unfair way for Karma to work. What if you are just truly NOT in love with the person you are with? Just because your feelings are different means it will happen to you? And the sad thing is that you are absolutely 100% right. I've have seen people dump others just to fall in love with someone who dumps them in the same fashion.

A dumps B, B dumps C, C dumps A and the vicious cycle continues. So long if your conscience is clear, accept the destiny that you are either the dumper or dumpee or of course the best outcome - none of the above.

Communication is the best way – no gadgets to be included. Say it to the person straight to his face. We know it hurts but that’s part of reality. Any one has its flaws and so does relationship.
