Helio Castroneves, a two-time Indy champion and “Dancing With the Stars” grand winner, currently faces tax evasion and fraud charges. According to reports, he allegedly used offshore accounts to conceal about $5.5 million in income from IRS between the years 1999 and 2004.
The 33-year old Sao Paulo native is scheduled to make court appearance later in the day together with his sister Katiucia Castroneves and business manager Alan Miller, who are also facing the same charges.
"This case sends a clear message that the IRS is committed to vigorously enforcing the tax laws and stopping offshore tax evasion," said IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman.
Castroneves’ popularity further rose on television after he won the 2007 edition of ABC’s top rating reality show “Dancing With the Stars” together with his partner Julianne Hough.
