Omega 3 pills come in many varietys with specifics for each form. In short, depending on what your specific reason for taking these and what benefit you are looking for from the omega 3's can make a difference in how many you take, and why you take them.
In short, most come in some form of fish oil, or other such form as a daily supplement. These are fine, if you are looking for essential fatty acids in your diet. However, as with most things, quality can vary greatly depending on price. Unfortunately, there are some "cheap" brands that use "cheap" ingredients, and dont go through as rigorous of testing as necessary. THis can be bad, in that if they are using fish oils in quantity, they can contain trace elements of mercury and other heavy metals, as some fish oil supplements are derived from left over fish processing parts, as opposed to specific fish, or cod livers, or the cod liver oil.
There are some omega 3 supplements that come from plant extracts, like avacado oil, or flax, or other plant based oil. These often are good, but because they are plant based, often don't have quite the strength of animal based sources. They often process slightly differently in the body, and therefore, can often times require higher doses for the same effect as from animal based supplements.
Omega 3's are quite the wonder food of the body, as so many functions and processes are benefited by adequate intake of Omega 3's. Studies have found that there specifically are active components in helping alleviate everything from inflamation and joint pain associated with arthritis, to inflamation and constriction of asthma sufferers, and even play vital links in proper brain function for people with alzheimers, Stroke survivors and other brain disorders. It stands to reason as the brain itself is made up of about 60% the same fatty acid tissue that we find in fish and other animals.
Anyway, sorry for such a long introduction, it does get back to the reason why you are taking the suplements.
If you are looking for something healthy, as part of a daily regimen along with a daily vitamin, or mineral tablet, then I would say you will probably notice a long term sense of well being and healthiness that you may have lacked. But maybe not. It depends on your age, your diet, and your metabolism.
If however, you are looking for relief from some form of ailment, then often times, just a "supplement" approach wont work - and often people consider adding high level doses to their diet. This can often result in very dramatic relief from pain issues due to inflamation, as well as some of the other benefits mentioned above. I have herd reccomendation of someone that takes 4 supplements of Green-Lip Mussel extract before working out as he has a long term injury that tends to flare up on hard workouts. He swears that this is the best treatment he has ever used, and reccomends this product in these doses for pain relief and best anti-inflamation characteristics. This is the product he reccomends
Green Lip Mussel oil with Grape Seed Extract. There is some really good research articles on this site under the Products Tab, under the Articles & Research section.
Anyway, sorry for such a long explanation. But it does depend on what sort of results you are looking for to say if "you have seen any benefits at all". I personally take several regular fish oil supplements, but am switching over to this Green Lip Mussel oil as I think the concentrations and purity of this product look pretty amazing. The more I read about the benefits of Omega 3's being an ESSENTIAL part of our daily diets, the more I am concerned about long term bennefits. I know from my daily regimen of 3 fish oil capsules, I can tell when I haven't had them. Believe it or not, I notice it mostly in my mood and overall "well being" feelings. Sounds kind of corny, but I have seen this much response in my own body.
Hope this info helps
